There remains a lot of confusion surrounding CBD oil and how it makes you feel. But this is not surprising in the slightest. Unfortunately, CBD is often grouped together with THC, the compound that makes you high. So, it’s safe to say that this assumption that CBD shoots you into the stars doesn’t help public perception.
See, on top of the confusion as to the sensations that CBD causes, there is a lot of disconnect between the truth and the assumptions of CBD. The main reason for this discrepancy between what is true and what is assumed comes down to the fact that CBD is derived from the cannabis plant which has been stigmatized.
Now, some strains of CBD oil are extracted from hemp plants. Technically speaking, hemp-derived CBD is the only legal form of CBD in the US at the moment, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for CBD to come from marijuana, rather than hemp.
But all of that background aside, it’s important to understand how CBD makes you feel. The outcome of taking CBD is not the same as when you consume THC by any means.
What Does CBD Feel Like?
As a disclaimer, there are some people out there who say that CBD doesn’t make them feel any differently than they do when nothing is in their systems. And this isn’t a result of people trying to pull your leg, either! Some people genuinely do not feel any difference when CBD enters their system, and there’s nothing of concern behind this. It simply is what it is!
However, there are many professionals who make the claim that people who say they don’t feel anything are definitely feeling something, but it’s not different or drastic enough for them to notice. How crazy is that?! CBD sometimes causes such subtle changes and effects that many people don’t notice a single thing.
But whether you recognize that you feel differently or you are truly convinced that you feel the same as usual, CBD does make changes in our systems. For others, CBD makes them feel instantly calmer, more relaxed and less irritable. In a way, it’s like taking a very minor version of a sedative, seeing as CBD makes everything feel less intense and more manageable.
If you go into the process of taking CBD with an expectation that you’ll feel totally different, such as when you are under the influence of THC or alcohol, then you likely won’t be able to pick up on the changes your body is experiencing as a result of CBD. But, if you take CBD and just let the supplement settle into your system, you will likely feel the effects of CBD, even if only to a minimal degree.
Hemp vs Cannabis-Derived CBD
As we mentioned, there are 2 forms of CBD. You can take either hemp-derived CBD or CBD extracted from marijuana plants. With hemp CBD, the product is going to be more CBD-dense, whereas marijuana-derived CBD will have higher traces of THC than hemp CBD ever could.
CBD that is extracted from marijuana plants contains higher THC levels, which means that you will feel CBD to a more powerful extent, due to a little something known as the entourage effect. CBD that comes directly from hemp plants is void of those higher trace amounts of THC, seeing as hemp contains less THC than marijuana plants do.
All in all, CBD can make you feel any of the following:
- Calmer and more relaxed
- Reduced anxiety
- Decreased stress levels
- Less physical pain in body
- More capable in terms of sleep
- Improved focus
- Fewer panic attacks
Different Consumption Methods
At the end of the day, the effects of CBD and how cannabidiol makes you feel will be in direct correlation to how much CBD you consume. There are six main ways by which people consume CBD. We’ve listed them below in order of intensity, with the first mode of consumption being the least impactful and the sixth method being the most powerful form of consuming CBD.
- Vaping
- Smoking
- Topicals
- Distillates
