Possible Side Effects of CBD

CBD is mainly known for its health benefits rather than its side effects. This is because the possibility of having side effects when you consume CBD is extremely rare. However, some people are likely to experience some minor issues in rare cases. Some of those minor side effects of CBD include;

  • Diarrhea
  • Changes in appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Changes in weight

Possible Side Effects of CBD

Major side effects of CBD

When used in a high dose or on a regular basis, some issues are likely to occur. On a related note, one of the common health benefits of CBD is its ability to treat childhood epilepsy. Do you know that children and teenagers between the ages of 2 to 18 are prescribed a high dose of CBD continuously for 2 weeks in order to address the health condition during clinical trials? This can lead to certain side effects in most cases and some of those after-effects include;

  • Rashes
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Irritability
  • Lethargy
  • Breathing issues
  • Infection
  • Reduced urination

Potential risks

Some studies report that CBD tends to disturb an enzyme called cytochrome P450 complex, which allows the liver to break down toxins. So, over or regular use of CBD products can result in a condition called liver toxicity. CBD is also likely to interact with OTC acids, prescribed medications, and dietary supplements. Note that CBD is reported to have the ability to spike up the effect of medication or other drugs in your body altering the desired results. Hence, it is highly recommended not to take any CBD products while using other medications. Otherwise, consult your doctor before using it.

Furthermore, the FDA has not certified the usage of CBD and hence, you cannot know the adequate dosage of particular products. Plus, you cannot ensure that the product you are getting is actually what it claims to be. In simple words, using CBD before being approved by the FDA would be like jumping the gun. Note that even though the benefits of CBD are highly praised these days, its clinical proof is unlikely to be available anytime soon.

How to address the side effects of CBD

In most cases, the associated symptoms are likely to appear during the first week or when the dose is increased suddenly. Usually, these indicators are likely to subside once the dosage is stabilized. So, it is recommended to lower the dosage if you experience any of the above-mentioned side effects after consuming CBD. In case the issue persists even after lowering the dose, it is better to wait it out at least a week or change the product.

Dishonest CBD products

It is worth noting that CBD is safe only if it is pure. Undoubtedly, the consequences will be worse if you are using dishonest CBD products regularly since it is likely to contain unwanted elements such as pesticides, contaminants, synthetic cannabinoids, higher levels of THC, etc. The worst part is that the side effects of using dishonest CBD products are unlikely to appear immediately and hence, it will be hard for you to notice it. Plus, it can cause long-term or permanent damage to the body of the user.
